A Hirado Teapot – Boy with Puppy – Meiji
June 2015 Auction by Far East Asian Art

This fine classic Hirado teapot is in the shape of a small Karako – boy – holding a puppy in his hands. This piece is illustrated in book “Japanese Porcelain” by Nancy Shiffer. The teapot is in excellent condition – the small Hirado blue top knot that would have been the lid of the teapot at the rear of the boy’s head is missing. The piece measures 8 1/8” high by 6 ¼” wide by 5 1/8” deep. It dates from the Golden Age of Hirado porcelain, early Meiji, circa 1870-1890s.
