A large fine Khmer sandstone relief, Angkor 11th Cent
February 2013 Auction by Far East Asian Art
The relief displaying 11 devas pulling on the tail of the sepent below 6 adorant figures and a central stylized niche. The scene symbol of the fight between evil and gods to find the 13 precious things lost in the churning of the cosmic sea. This splendid sandstone piece date back to Angkor late Bayon period 11th to early 12th Century. The relief is 36 In (92 cms) width and 18 1/2 In (47 cms) height.
