A Japanese Nabeshima Dish - Early Meiji
January 2013 Auction by Far East Asian Art
An early Meiji Japanese porcelain dish - Nabeshima porcelain - with an underglaze cobalt blue geometric design on the top of the dish. The foot has the characteristic vertical combed foot design and there are two of the traditional "cash" designs on the underside of the rim.
The dish measures 6 1/4 " diameter and is 1 3/4" high. We date it to the early Meiji period, circa 1870-1890. Condition is generally good - there is a stable old hairline on the rim.
