Meiji Gosho Ningyo Sambaso Dancer by Maruhei

This delightful Japanese gosho ningyo (“palace doll”), wearing a high hat and holding a rattle with bells, appears to be resting after doing the Sambaso dance. Meiji period (1868-1912). This doll was crafted by Maruhei, a long-established doll shop in Kyoto founded in 1779 and renown for the masterly performance of its craftsmen.
