A Hirado Bud Vase – Late Edo-Early Meiji
December 2012 Auction by Far East Asian Art
This is a charming little Hirado bud vase with a design of a winding stream with branches of flowers in underglaze Hirado blue. The flowers are either hanging above the stream or floating in it. The vase measures 4 1/16”high and is 3” diameter at its widest. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or restorations. There is one tiny firing flaw on the bottom. We date the vase to the late Edo to early Meiji period, circa 1850 – 1890s.
