A Double Square Kutani Kogo – late Meiji
June 2015 Auction by Far East Asian Art

This is a handsome small porcelain kogo by the Kutani potters. It is in the shape of interlocking squares that give the piece an irregular rectangular shape. The entire top and sides are decorates in a geometric pattern of blues, reds, gold, green and white.

The bottom of the kogo is unglazed and has the two character mark that reads as Kutani. The two characters literally translate as Nine Mountains – which surround the town where this ware originates...
