A Kingfisher Feather Art Hair Pin - Qing

This is a quite lovely Chinese kingfisher hair pin, late Qing, 19th century – 2 ¼” wide by 7/8” high by 1/8” –deep – the pin is 2 3/8” long. It is in excellent condition with no losses. We date it to 19th century, Qing dynasty.

For 2,000 years, the Chinese have been using the iridescent blue feathers of kingfisher birds as an inlay for fine art objects and adornment, from hairpins, headdresses, and fans to even panels and screens...
