A Satsuma Vase w/Extensive Gosu Blue Decoration–Edo

This superb Japanese Satsuma vase has a somewhat bulbous body tapering upwards towards a more narrow neck that ends with a flare at the top. The vase has very extensive use of the highly prized dark blue glaze known as “Gosu Blue”. It is seen in large swirling patterns like waves at the lower part of the vase. On top of this Gosu blue we find almost a dozen intricate designs of fans in raised gold - with red highlights and, on a few of the fans, some pale blue highlights...
