A Fine Japanese Lacquer Tray - Flowers & Shells- Meiji

This is a handsome Japanese lacquer tray with a makie design of many flowers and three painted sea shells as used in the Japanese shell game. The flowers include a large peony - a spray of daffodils - some plum blossoms and a lily-like flower. The design is surrounded with a sparse sprinkling of nashiji (pear skin) lacquer dots.
