Unusual Chinese Song dynasty stoneware molded praying monkey covered in a runny brown glaze probably crafted to serve as a toy or tomb object. About 2 1/2" long. Circa 12th century. Very good overall condition with a tiny glaze loss to one ear. From the private collection of a former American expatriate to Guangzhou in 1983-1984.
