Late Edo Period Double Gourd Tokkuri – Published Piece

This fine thin double gourd Tokkuri has an elaborate overglaze enamel decoration of a lohan and a dragon. At the bottom of the piece, there is a fine picture of a seated lohan holding up a cup to the heavens in his right hand – possibly to appease the dragon overhead. The dragon surrounds the thinner upper part of the tokkuri and is surrounded by clouds.

On another side of the lower half is a design of a large floral arrangement in a vase on top of a red lacquer table...
