This well potted small pottery figure of a reclining tiger dates from the Yuan Dynasty, China, AD 1279-1368. It would have been one of twelve such figures buried in tombs as an auspicious Zodiac animal to accompany the dead person. For such an early example of pottery, the tiger is remarkably well preserved – clearly because of having been buried for centuries...
