A Japanese Lacquer Tray - Leaves and Threads - Meiji
July 2014 Auction by Far East Asian Art
The tray measures 10.8 " inches square and is 2.2" high at the rim. It is in very good condition - there are two slightly rubbed edges on two of the feet. The design is executed in makie and takamakie on a shiny black roiro ground - the design is of different flowers surrounded by a mass of thin thread-like lines. We date it to the Golden Age of Japanese lacquer -the mid to late Meiji period, circa 1885-1905.
