This is a handsome Japanese lacquer tray with a design of dianthus flowers executed in makie lacquer on a shiny black roiro ground. Three different types of gold lacquer are used in this piece - Makie (low relief), Takamakie (high relief) and red lacquer to form the flowers

The tray measures 11.4 " inches square and is 3.0" high at the rim - it sits on four triangular legs. It is in excellent condition - there are very small chips at the base of one of two legs...
