A Timorese Door from the area which is now East Timor or Timor-Leste. A powerful example of the old tribal arts of the Indonesian Archipelago and a great piece of ethnographic art. Feathers two crocodiles, the national animal and Kakoak birds which figure prominently in Timorese mythology and symbolism. The Kakoak is taken as a symbol of courage and bravery. Door is of heavy, tightly grained jackwood. Dimensions: Height: 59 inches Width: 19 Thickness: 1 1/2 inches
