A Swatow, South China, Jarlet - 15th/16th century
June 2015 Auction by Far East Asian Art
A nice crackled finish porcellaneous jarlet with an underglaze blue and white water plants and leaping fish against a tannish grey ground. Measures 2” high by 2 ½” diameter. There are quite a few chips and missing areas to the top glaze – yet the intrinsic strength of the jarlet still shines through. Dates to the 15th – 16th century. There is an old museum or collectors mark on the base. It probably originates in the Swatow, South China.
